Hello, welcome! I got a new website!
So it’s been a bit depressing looking at my website/blog because the last post I wrote was about how my ulcerative colitis has flared up again and how I didn’t know what was going to happen next. Well I know what happened next and it wasn’t pleasant at all. So constantly seeing it on the front page made me feel weird.
And as it happens my new website design went live just as I started to get horrendously ill and I didn’t even realise. It wasn’t until I finally got home and actually felt like doing a bit of work that I saw it and realised I’d completely gone off the design since being in hospital for month.
So I decided to start from scratch and I hired the incredible Cat Byrne and her company Gatto to design my new website and blog. And the post about my ulcerative colitis has remained top of the site because I didn’t want to write anything new until the design was ready. But here we are!
Please take a look around. Click on all the buttons. Explore all the different pages.
Now that we’re here and it’s all up and running you can expect regular blog posts again! In the past I always would get into the habit of weekly blog posts then something would happen like I would travel somewhere and it would knock me off my game and I wouldn’t post anything for months. Well, I’m going to try and break this cycle!
I will aim to post weekly (having a schedule and deadlines helps with my productivity) but I also like the idea of keeping this blog as a place I can post things on the whim as and when I’m feeling them. No pressure. Just thoughts and writing.
I’m supposed to be writing my second book this year and I have the idea and outline and everything but I’m still not fully recovered from surgery and my brain is especially weak. The idea of such a huge project like WRITING A BOOK terrifies and overwhelms me right now. I just don’t have the mental capacity right now to get started.
But I’m in the mood for blogs! Bite size and manageable!
So if you fancy reading more then you should really follow me on social media (no-one actually follows blogs anymore do they?). I will always post when I’ve written a new blog.
Thanks for your patience, I hope you like the new website as much as I do.

I just discovered you over on YouTube and have enjoyed getting to “know” you. I developed UC late in life; couldn’t get it in under control and had a J-Pouch installed 15 years ago. Whether or not you opt to ‘go pouch’ you should visit the forum at The J-Pouch group http://www.j-pouch.org = good helpful folks who don’t mind talking poo. Feel free to get in touch if you want to hear my story or just “talk” I’m in Maine in the States, but I lived in London for 3 years back in the 70’s so speak English English fairly well.
Hello Hannah,
I have been a casual viewer of your videos for a long time and only recently saw your news about your Stoma. The positive manner in which you have approached this life changing surgery has been very inspiring and a breath of fresh air from some of the other mainstream views about stoma’s which place it in a negative light. I understand that coming to terms with a life with a stoma can be traumatic and hard to adjust to but living with one for most of my 28 years, I have found it disheartening to hear the negative and sometimes crude way people refer to living with a stoma.
Thank you for your positive attitude, for being honest about the downs but also the ups of life with a stoma and coming to terms with the new you with a stoma. The little triumphs and new firsts are great to watch. Your confidence is inspiring and normalizing for the ostomat community. I love that you are addressing the issue and the change in your life, but also still discussing all the other things you would normally address on your videos. You are not reducing yourself to the one new characteristic but are not ignoring it either.
I am curious about the reasons for your choice to go with a one piece bag and a drainage version bag. Was this your choice or recommended by your stoma nurse? I have known some fellow ostomats who prefer it to the two 2 piece because of fit, some because of environmental reasons and others because of speed of change. Similar reasons can be used for a two piece but I am just curious about your reasoning or are you still finding your feet product wise? I know in the first few weeks it felt like I tried a hundred different products and even years later I am still testing new products each year when something new comes to the market.
Thank you for your continued entertaining videos and your honest reflection on this massive change in your life.
Wishing you continued success on your travels and best wishes as you heal and recover.
Clare.
