My 2015

My first ever post on this blog was my reflecting on what a year 2014 had been so it’s only right that I do the same for 2015. It’s a weird one though, when I try to look back on the last 12 months it’s hard to think of any significant things that happened – it all blurs into one. In 2014 I had some pretty massive life changes like graduating and moving to London. In 2015, I’m still a graduate and I still live in London. In fact I even live in the same warehouse, I’ve not even moved house in over a year. So what has happened in 2015? (I am literally just going to look over my calendar and then make a list of significant things).

Speaking at TEDxClapham

I started 2015 on a real high when I spoke at TEDxClapham about what I learned from the response to my ‘Do I Look Like A Slut?’ video. It was such a great experience doing a talk in front of so many people and also connecting with the other speakers.

I started and then I quit the gym

This was bit of an experiment. I’ve never really been a gym go-er before but a new gym was opening near me in January and they had a really cheap pre-opening deal which lasted 12 months. I never used any of the equipment but I went to yoga and dance classes every so often but not enough to justify the increased price after 12 months so I quit. Experiment complete. I am not a gym person.

2015 was a big year of travel for me, especially for work travel. My first trip of 2015 was in April when I visited my sister in the Netherlands. Then I went to Japan and South Korea which was amazing as I’d never been to that part of the world before.

Just chillin' in Japan ✌🏼️

I was back home for 10 days and then I went on one of my favourite trips ever – the Trek America trip with other YouTubers and bloggers. We camped, we hiked, we saw incredible sights and we partied.

My next trip was back to America but this time to LA for VidCon! It was my fourth year at VidCon but every year I still have no idea what I’m doing and it’s so overwhelming but so much fun. I’m not a massive fan of LA as a city but on my last day there my friend, Jack Ferry, and I cycled along the beach which was wonderful and I could kind of see a little bit why people like to live there.

In September, I went to Berlin to visit my friend, Candie, who I met on Trek America. This trip mostly involved drinking.

And then my final trip of 2015 was back to North America but this time Canada! It was my first time in Canada and I went to Toronto for Buffer Festival which was incredible. I definitely want to explore more of Canada in the future.

After Toronto I went to New York for 2 weeks just to hang out. I am obsessed with New York and one day I’d really like to live there and it felt good pretending I did for 2 weeks!

Looking cute as hell with @akilahh at the Brooklyn Bridge 🍦

I can’t wait to see what 2016 travelling has in store for me!

I reached 100,000 subscribers this year! Such a huge milestone and I’m so proud of my channel and the community we’ve created around it. 2015 was also the year that I became a full-time YouTuber! I still feel like I’m finding my feet a bit but I love the work I do. This year has felt a bit like a buffering year, there are a lot of things up in the air and a lot of things that I’ve been working towards that will hopefully come to fruition in 2016.

I’ve been really happy with the content I’ve made in 2015. First of all, Drunk Advice launched and you guys absolutely love it and I love it! Surprisingly, my favourites videos have also been a success. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting you guys to like them that much and I wasn’t expecting to like making them but I really do! I think I was scared of not being authentic because the only favourites videos I ever saw were beauty, fashion and lifestyle ones but I’ve used the same foundation for years. But I’ve found my groove in talking about my favourite books, films, TV shows and other things and it feels good.

Other stuff

There was an election. The Conservative Party won. It sucks. I saw Taylor Swift live. That did the opposite of suck. It was incredible. One of my best friend’s got married. That was awesome and strange. I am still single.

I love London, I love my friends, I love my job, I love my family, I love travelling. Here’s to more of everything in 2016, including the hangovers.

  1. As a new subscriber to your channel (and follower to your blog), I found all the videos I’ve so far watched entertaining and interesting. Your accomplishments this year look amazing – I can’t wait to see even more next year πŸ™‚

  2. I love your favorites videos! I’ve gotten some great reading suggestions off of them, so thanks!

I watched your TEDx talk. Good job! I’d have been so nervous, but you looked like a pro up there!

I watched some other TEDx videos while I was at it, and really enjoyed this one entitled “Everyday Sexism.” If you haven’t seen it, I’d recommend giving it a view.

Keep up the good work in 2016! I wish you health and happiness in the new year! πŸ™‚

  3. I think you do such a wonderful job of keeping your “public” life (insta/youTube/blog/etc.) very balanced in terms of lighthearted and serious, as well as educational and entertaining, even ones that don’t necessarily fall into the “main” focus of sex/sexuality/gender. : )

As someone who will finally be starting to make videos this year (thanks to a X-Mas gifted camera!), your channel is a big inspiration in terms of tone and aforementioned balance…and you just being a lovely person in general!

  4. Even though it is only the second time you did this, I really enjoy your yearly reviews of what you have accomplished (or not) and what you loved. Amazing what can happen in only one year’s time!

Let me just be a stupid little fangirl and tell you how much I love the content you make and, well, you, as a person. Your passion for the topics you talk about is really inspiring, and I enjoy not only the favorites videos (which are refreshingly un-girly, if you don’t mind me saying this) and the sex-and-feminism-and-stuff-videos, but just watching you rambling along and doing collabs and having fun and … oh well. Enough of this humiliating fan-ing.

Stay cool as you are, girl!
