Before you ask, we’ve still not moved into the new flat. Fingers crossed for July! But here’s what happened in June.
I spent a week in hospital and had surgery…again
I explain everything that happened in this video but yes you heard right. Another surgery.
I was in hospital between 10th-18th June and my surgery was on the 13th (just one day before my 5 month 1st surgery anniversary). This was totally unexpected and basically took over the rest of June for me. And probably the rest of July, August, September… who knows when I’ll be fully recovered from everything that has happened this year?! As always my family and Dan were right by my side through the whole thing. And because I was in hospital in London this time I got lots of visits from friends which was lovely! I’m doing okay now. Still tired a lot and my wound still hurts as it’s healing. But I’m out and about with my walking stick again which I get loads of compliments on!
I won an award!
Before I got ill again I went to the Blogosphere Awards where I was nominated for Vlogger of the Year. And I frickin’ won! Also, my friend Melanie won her category Influencer of the Year! I’m so proud of us both and it was such a great evening. When I was in hospital for a month at the beginning of this year and not uploading videos or posting to social media I genuinely thought “this is the beginning of the end of my career”. But that hasn’t been the case and I am so grateful. Especially grateful as being able to work from home has been a dream during recovery. I think if I had a “normal” 9-5 and I was off work on sick leave for the majority of this year I would have gone mad. Working keeps me sane.
My book came out in the USA!
Okay, technically this happened in July but I want to talk about it now. Last year my book Doing It! was published in the UK and on 3rd July with a brand new cover it got published in the US! I love love the new cover design and really hope the book does well over there. It’s such a big place and I’m so far away it doesn’t feel real but hopefully some people buy it and they enjoy it and it helps them in some way.

I met Elphaba and Glinda!
Right at the beginning of June before all the hospital/surgery crap happened I went to watch Theatre Lounge Live at the home of Wicked. My friend, Calum, joined me and we got to sit on stage as Alice Fearn (Elphaba) and Sophie Evans (Glinda) sang songs from the show and answered questions. Then we got to meet them both and take pictures and ask our own questions. If you didn’t know, I LOVE Wicked. I’ve seen it 4 times and I would see it again in a heart beat.

So basically June was terrible with a sprinkling of some really really good stuff. Maybe it balances out. Hoping to get back to more regular blog posts soon so watch this space!

Hi, great blog post! I’ve been following you for a while now, and I was just interested in whether/when you are thinking of cutting your hair short again? I have seen you tweet about it before but was unsure. Thanks!
Hi Hannah, I think in a strange way what’s happened to you this year has if anything been a huge boost to your career rather than the end of it. Nobody would wish this on anybody, but the way you’ve handled it and managed to remain positive and motivated to v/blog the experience is just incredible. Very few people going through this could have done the same. Your attitude is “how can I use my experience to benefit everybody”, no matter how painful and debilitating the experience, physically and mentally. This is beyond admiration. You are a very special person.
Congratulations on your award, which was very well deserved, and I sincerely hope you recover from your surgery fully and quickly. Perhaps your next book should be on your IBD, ostomy, and the impact on your life. I think it would be inspirational, and have a much wider audience than just other sufferers. All the best, Paul x.
This is really bad you have to keep going to hospital for problems. I can’t help but wonder though if reversing the operation would make you feel more human. Personally I wouldn’t want that operation done underany circumstances for myself. I hope your book is a good seller and I am glad you have won an award.
Hope you get better soon. You are strong beautiful girl very talented. I wish health love and happiness xxx Franco
I have a very similar story! 3 blockages after surgery – all a week in hospital with ng. Third time they operated and I was unlucky my bowel had twisted. 2 years later and I’ve never been better. Also given birth to twins! No way am I having reversal. Why fix what ain’t broke?! X
