What Happened in May

June 8, 2018 · My Diary, Travel

And so continues the monthly round ups. This is what happened in May.

Traveling for the first time since surgery!

For 3 weeks of May I was out of the country. I kind of went all or nothing. First trip away from home, away from my boyfriend, away from London since everything that happened… sure I’ll go away for THREE WHOLE WEEKS. I spent 2 wonderful weeks in Los Angeles which I vlogged for your viewing pleasure! And then one week in Austria.

Sex Education Station!

In Austria I was attending IFM-SEI‘s Let’s Talk About Sex (LTAS) seminar. This was a week of workshops, nerding out about sex education and really going deep into things and thinking more critically. I learned so so much and can’t wait to apply these new things to my videos. We discussed sex and sex education through different systems of oppression: patriarchy, homophobia, transphobia, racism, ableism, capitalism. IT. WAS. SO. INTERESTING.

IFM-SEI is an international youth organisation and one of their member organisations in Finland are having a big camp this summer called Participation Island. Turns out they were looking for people from the LTAS seminar to join the team in Finland and teach sex ed workshops to young people aged 8+! So obviously I applied and I just found out that I got it! It’s a volunteer role and I’m so excited that at the end of July I get to put my work into practice and deliver sex ed IN PERSON.

Underwear photoshoot

So the actual photoshoot happened in April but we published the photos and posted the behind the scenes mini-doc at the end of May. I am so overwhelmed and filled with love by the response. If you left a comment on the video or the photos or tweeted, thank you so so much! It really means a lot and I’m glad that me putting myself out there and being vulnerable can potentially help a lot of people.

And just like last month, May was another month of waiting and waiting and no news about moving into the new flat. I am beyond sad and frustrated right now but there’s nothing I can do except keep waiting. Hopefully, in June’s round up I have some good news!

How was your May? What words best summarise the month for you and what were your highlights?

I hope your new flat works out good for you. There are highlight to my month but I feel they may seem unsuitable to say. Hope your feeling better Hannah.

Last week I met the one and only Emily Nagoski, an Last week I met the one and only Emily Nagoski, and her twin Amelia! They were in London giving a talk about their book Burnout and unlocking the stress cycle (I currently don’t have access to good sleep so I’ll have to pick laughing and crying instead! 😂😅😭)

Emily is an incredible sex educator (Come As You Are author!) and I’ve been inspired and influenced by her work over the years 💖 I also interviewed her on my podcast @doingitpodcast via the interwebs in 2021 so it was lovely to be able to meet in person!

Have you read Come As You Are or Burnout? What was something you learned from them?
